History

The Brugse Vaart domain is situated on the banks of the old River Zwin and owes its name to the canal which was dug here by the City of Bruges at the beginning of the 16th century, in a last desperate attempt to prevent the silting up of the Zwin and the loss of the city’s access to the sea.

In 1987 this location was chosen for the creation of an 18 hole golf club.  In this already water-rich area, a large number of additional water features were included in the design.  As a result, the domain is well-known for its unique ambiance, which makes it more than just another golf course.  Typical in this respect is the wide variety of aquatic birds and other animals, which have been traditionally associated with this area and which the club is keen to retain.  In this respect, the course planting also plays an important role.  This all means that the Brugse Vaart can offer golfers a beautiful natural setting and an unrivalled atmosphere of peace and calm. Little wonder that golfers come from near and far to enjoy this unique golfing experience.  And who can blame them?
